The accomplishment of the project of wireless high-speed Internet for the inhabitants, tourists and local administration was started by the Municipal Authority of the Capital of Prague in 2007. The project related to the Municipal Authority and selected Municipal Districts. At the time of beginning of accomplishment of the project Municipal District Prague 10 was not among the selected municipal Districts. With regard to the increasing interest of the inhabitants of Prague 10 in the possibility of wireless connection to the Internet and unclear situation relating to when the Municipal District will be included to the project financed by the Municipal Authority, it was decided to build the Wi-Fi network in the territory of Prague 10 from the funds of the Municipal District. Up to present the necessary analyses have been performed and the selection procedure for the contractor. In the meantime, an agreement was concluded between the Municipal Authority and Municipal District about the extension of the project also to its territory.

By the end of November, 2008 accomplished will be 7 distribution points, namely:

• crossroads of the Streets Vršovická and Petrohradská
• building of the Authority of Municipal District Prague 10 (accomplished)
• Kubánské náměstí
• the building of the Municipal Police Str. Korunní
• underground Strašnická (Streets Starostrašnická and Strašnická)
• crossroads of the Streets Moskevská and Žitomírská
• policlinic Malešice

Further gradual extension of coverage will be accomplished from the funds of Municipal District Prague 10.

The possibility of connection to the Wi-Fi network will also improve after the building of Internet network to schools.
In relation to frequent questions relating to the connection itself to Wi-Fi network it is necessary to state that first, the precondition is a good signal. It is necessary to count with the fact that the structure of this network is not intended for the connection inside residential houses. The signal may be accessible close the windows in the direction to the access point, it is true, however, its penetrability through solid obstacles is limited. In this case the solution will be the use of the relevant antennae. The connection to Wi-Fi network supposes a computer with Wi-Fi interface or Wi-Fi card.

At the present stage of accomplishment of the project “wireless Prague” it will not be possible to use the Internet within full extent as it is in case of competitive providers of these services, e.g., UPC or O2. The access to information systems will be possible through the so-called Navigation. It will enable gaining information from the public administration, authorities, the Police, the health services, etc. It ensues from it that the extent of use of services of the Internet with the connection to Wi-Fi network will be limited.
